Where to Find Chess Hustlers in Cebu City

This is just a partial list of where you can meet strangers in Cebu City who are willing to play chess with you.

Ayala Center Cebu

Chess tables line up the tiny passage way on the side of PlayNation in Ayala Center Cebu. Expect someone to offer to play you if you decide to hang around to watch some of the games.

There are at least a dozen tables so plenty of room for everyone to play.

Near the Cathedral

At the corner of P. Burgos and Legaspi Streets, there's a space of the sidewalk that hosts avid chess players.

It's not the most ergonomic way to play chess. But you'll get a raw vibe of downtown Cebu while trying to focus on the order and chaos that's on the chess board.

A shelter to homeless people at night, this spot becomes busy with the shops running their business in the morning. I've noticed that chess players start to show up during lunch break, when the shops close. They continue to play until sundown.

Kamagong

At the corner of J Solon Drive and C Rosal St., there's a lone chess set that passionate chess players take turns on. They can be hard to spot if you're just driving in your car. The hustle of banana and snack vendors easily conceal the games going on when you're passing by at speed.

But our good chess friends are there every afternoon, intensely battling each other on the board and with the chess clock.

Even Google's street view caught a game in progress.
